This is a great value two album set. 'Solo live' is a brilliant solo Piano concert recorded on 27th February 1997 in Frankfurt. Petrucciani is in sparkling form, dazzling in his improvisations and by the end, when he blasts through 'Caravan' and his standard encore of 'She Did it Again/Take the A train', you will be cheering with the crowd for more.Incidently 'She Did it Again' is so titled after a dog that was not very well house trained and used to go to the toilet in inappropriate places. Michel would shout out "She did it again"!Both Worlds is a sextet (studio) album featuring Bob Brookmeyer on Trombone, Stefano Di Battista on Saxophone, Flavio Boltro on Trumpet, Anthony Jackson on Bass and Steve Gadd on drums. They play some Petrucciani's best compositions, two of which appear on the solo album. Its interesting to compare the two versions. 'Both Worlds' doesn't have the immediate impact of the solo album but after a few listens you will be hooked.Sadly Petrucciani made only one or two more albums after these before he died. 'Trio in Tokyo' is well worth getting, but as a starter for one of the greatest ever European Jazz Pianists this double set takes some beating.
