Product Description Best-selling violinist Rachel Barton Pine's relationship with the music of Bachruns deep. She first heard and fell in love with Bach's music in her hometownSt. Paul's Church in Chicago, which had a stained glass window of the composer in the sanctuary. That church is where Rachel first played Bach's music, at the age of four, and where she returned to record Bach's Six Sonatas and Partitas in its beautiful yet clear acoustic. Rachel says, I'm so pleased to have recorded the Six Sonatas and Partitas in my favorite sound space for these works, the place that I consider to truly be my emotional home for playing them. Review Bravura technique and soulful musicianship. --New York TimesAn exciting, boundary-defying performer. --Washington PostRachel Barton Pine really may be the most charismatic, the most virtuosic, and the most compelling American violinist ofher generation. --All Music Guide

Four days ago while driving, I tuned in XM channel 76. There I listened to the finest performance I have ever heard of the D minor Partita. I have played this, and the other 5 Bach solo sonatas and partitas, in my very ameture manner. There are performances I do not like (Gidon Kremer, for example, flashy and brash). This performance to which I listened on XM was a revelation, the phrasing, the expressiveness and feeling, the nuances added within notes, surpassing any which I had heard, and the tone was deep and strong. I listened until the end to learn who was performing: Rachel Barton!I remember Rachel when she a child, at Meadowmount, the summer camp for string players in Elizabethtown, NY. I remember her playing 1st violin in a performance of Beethoven Op. 18 #4, leading the others with her bow and eye contact. She was 9 years old. I remember her mom, her younger sister ('cellist).Rachel has written exquisite program notes in this set. She has made these Bach solo pieces the centerpiece of her musical intellect and she has the talent to express this in her playing. For me this is a must own album. I hope others will concur.
