Why? John has been a professional Bluegrass, Jazz, & Classical guitarist for decades, & Grisman wanted to create a new sound by adding elements of Jazz & Classical to his Bluegrass. John Carlini graduated from the Berklee School of Music, was the musical director for the "Ice Capades, the guitarist for the road company of "Grease", and has played Bluegrass with his friends: Tex Logan, Bill Keith, David Grisman, & Tony Rice for many years. His arrangements & orchestrations have been recorded by the David Grisman Quintet, the Nashville Mandolin Ensemble, & the Tonight Show Band. Carlini also orchestrated the score for the DeLaurentiis film, "King of the Gypsies" & was nominated for a Drama Desk award for his orchestrations for the off-Broadway swing musical, "The Song of Singapore". His influences range from guitarists like Andres Segovia, Django Rhinehardt & Lenny Breau, to pianist Bill Evans & saxophonist John Coltrane. His father was a violinist in the New York Philharmonic, while his mother was a virtuoso piano player.
